Born in the German town of Düren in 1970, he first came to public attention when he won second prize at the 1990 Leeds International Piano Competition and has enjoyed a varied career for over twenty-five years. Lars Vogt was born in the German town of Düren on September 8, 1970. He studied piano in Achen with Ruth Weiss and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling. After his victory at the 1990 Leeds Competition, Vogt launched his international career, touring throughout Europe and eventually the Americas and Asia.

His debut solo recording on Ondine with Bach s Goldberg Variations was released in August 2015 and has been a major critical success. Lars Vogt playing is fresh and elegant and the dialogue between soloist and orchestra is excellently realized, especially in light of the fact that soloist and conductor seem to take rather different views of the works, something which here leads to a very dynamic interplay rather than confusion.

Lars Vogt’s new solo piano release is dedicated to the piano works of Leos Janacek (1854–1928), one of the most original voices among the 20th century composers.
